The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has launched the 2024 World Wildlife Day (WWD) International Youth Art Contest. As wildlife faces unprecedented threats, this contest empowers young creators to voice their support for conservation through art.

This initiative, in collaboration with CITES and UNDP, coincides with World Wildlife Day 2024. This year’s theme is “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”. It celebrates how digital advancements aid in protecting our biodiversity.

For the first time, the contest is accepting digital art, alongside traditional mediums like markers and paints. Open to ages four to 18, it encourages participants to feature species that benefit from conservation tech like camera traps and tracking collars.

Entries don’t need to showcase the technology, but rather the animals they help protect. And parents can assist their young artists in researching these innovative methods.

Online submissions are due by February 6, 2024. The most impactful pieces will be on display at the WWD event on March 4, 2024.

Remember, 3 March is World Wildlife Day, established by the UN to spotlight the plight of global wild flora and fauna. Join this artistic endeavor to make a difference for the creatures we cherish.

CITES, or the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, is a global agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. It’s crucial in regulating and monitoring endangered species trade.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works across nations to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities. It champions the sustainable management of biodiversity through its various programs and initiatives, ensuring a better future for all species on our planet.
