PRESS RELEASE
An Australian animal health products company has launched a new cat health supplement that helps ease stress and anxiety while also helping their dental health.
Vetafarm has recently announced the launch of new product line, the Lovebites cat range. The innovative product is designed by Australian veterinarians and nutritionists to reduce stress and anxiety while improving dental health in cats.
Dr Tony Gestier, veterinarian and founder of Vetafarm, stresses the need to consider the evolutionary patterns and behaviours of pets when enhancing their health.
“When striving to enhance the health of our domesticated cats, we must consider their wild counterparts, who typically live shorter lives and are less susceptible to age-related illnesses and diseases that our pet cats experience,” he says.
“Aging is unavoidable, but with modern approaches, growing old should not be a barrier to a fulfilling life for our feline companions. Through our innovative approach to feline health, we can extend the vitality and longevity of pet cats far beyond their wild cousins.”
Research indicates between 50% and 90% of cats older than four years suffer from some form of dental disease.
“As cats age, their teeth become prone to dental diseases that can have serious repercussions throughout their body,” says Dr Tony.
Tartar formation, common in domestic cats due to their diet, can lead to severe health issues if untreated. Persistent tartar can cause liver and kidney problems and invade the bloodstream, leading to life-threatening septicaemia.
Lovebites DentaShield for Cats has been described as a game-changer for feline health.
Featuring Norwegian Brown Kelp to inhibit bacterial growth and slow plaque formation, it’s dual-action chew is designed to support optimal tooth and gum health.
Another ingredient, sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), works in the cat’s saliva to bind with calcium, preventing the conversion of plaque into tartar.
“This is an excellent way to care for their teeth, as it does not need to rub against the teeth to provide results,” says Dr Tony.
Stress and anxiety are common in pet cats and can be triggered by a number of factors. Changes in their environment, new pets, loud noises, or medical issues, can all be causes of an anxious cat.
Symptoms include inappropriate elimination, aggression, excessive grooming, hiding, and decreased appetite.
The Lovebites B-Calm for Cats has been formulated to help cats suffering stress and anxiety with its non-drowsy, non-sedative supplement.
One of the key ingredients, L-Tryptophan, is an amino acid that converts to serotonin in the brain, helping reduce anxiety. In addition, Thiamine (Vitamin B1) promotes healthy brain function, further aiding in anxiety relief.
“It is essential to consult with a veterinarian before using B-Calm in conjunction with prescription anxiety medication, as not all symptoms of stress and anxiety are related to serotonin production” says Dr Tony.
